The No. 11 Michigan State Spartans lost a rare home game in a 74-67 defeat to the No. 12 Ohio State Buckeyes.
Durrell Summers led the Spartans with 17 points while Chris Allen added 11.
Point guard Kalin Lucas was just 3-13 from the field for only 9 points. As he goes, so goes the Spartans.
That and the fact that the Spartans don’t have a dominant scorer is really becoming an issue for the team.
Michigan State is tied with Ohio State for second place in the Big 10, one game behind the Purdue Boilermakers.

The No. 11 Michigan State Spartans had little trouble going on the road and taking care of business against the Indiana Hoosiers, 72-58.
The victory allowed the Spartans to once again take over sole possession of first place in the Big 10.
It was an old formula that used to bring the Spartans a lot of success that once again resulted in a victory.
Michigan State pounded the ball inside, scoring 40 points in the paint. They also turned it up on the defensive end, forcing 23 turnovers.
Kalin Lucas finished with 13 points, and the point guard looks closer to his old self following that sprained ankle.

The No. 10 Michigan State Spartans couldn’t protect their home court in a 76-64 loss to the No. 6 Purdue Boilermakers.
It was just a few weeks ago that the Spartans had a stranglehold on first place in the Big 10 standings, but how quickly things have changed.
Michigan State has now dropped into a first place tie with the Illinois Fighting Illini, who stunned the Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center.
It seems like ever since the Spartans fell to the Badgers and Kalin Lucas sprained his ankle, things have gone downhill in a hurry.
Head coach Tom Izzo said that he predicted that the winner of the Big 10 would have four or five losses, but said the his team is unfortunately quickly closing in on that number.

In their first game since losing starting point guard Kalin Lucas to an injury, the Michigan State Spartans found out just how tough life in the Big 10 will be without their star player.
The Illinois Illini charged to a 78-73 upset of No.5 Michigan State on Saturday, thanks to the inspired play of DeMetri McCamey.
“Playing without Lucas, it’s no excuse. Everybody has to play without somebody,” Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said. “I told McCamey he’s twice the player he was when he played at our place. He’s so much of a different player.”
McCamey scored 22 points and dished out 11 assists to guide his Illini to the victory.
The Spartans kept themselves afloat without their starting point guard, as they only trailed by one at the half and narrowed Illinois’ lead to three in the final minutes. But despite Draymond Green’s 17 points and 16 rebounds, the Spartans couldn’t finish the comeback against the Illini.
“I told them it didn’t matter, they were still going to come at us, they have a lot of weapons,” Illinois coach Bruce Weber said. “Tom exerts his intensity, his will to be successful. Those kids just play off of that.”

The Michigan State Spartans gave life to some other Big 10 competitors with a 67-49 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers.
Michigan State was complacent and disinterested against one of the teams that could threaten their Big 10 crown.
The Spartans still control their own destiny in the conference, but the loss certainly loosened their stranglehold on first place.
As if the news wasn’t bad enough, guard Kalin Lucas sprained his ankle late in the game and did not return.
Lucas is a huge part of their offense, and the Spartans cannot afford to lose him for any period of time.
