The Michigan State Spartans followed up a lackadaisical first half with 17 third quarter points en route to a 24-14 win over the Northwestern Wildcats.
Michigan State’s defense played very well in the first half yet the team still found themselves trailing 7-0 at halftime to an inferior team.
The second half was a different story, as Michigan State came flying out of the locker room looking like a completely different team.
Now that they got past Northwestern, Michigan State hosts No. 7 Iowa next week with a prime opportunity to pull off a big upset.

Tate Forcier led yet another last-second drive to add to his rapidly growing highlight reel… but it wasn’t enough this week, as Michigan St. upset Michigan 26-20, scoring back-to-back wins over Michigan for the first time in 42 years.
“We did something that hasn’t been done in 42 years,” Spartans coach Mark Dantonio said. “That’s amazing. But facts are facts. This game has a way of defining you.”
Spartans running back Larry Caper scampered for a 23-yard touchdown in overtime to give the Spartans the victory, after Chris L. Rucker intercepted Forcier’s pass in the end zone off a deflection.
Michigan State was in control of this game until the fourth quarter, when Forcier got back on his magic carpet and went for a ride, scoring two touchdowns in the final 15 minutes. He threw his final TD with two seconds left on the game clock, a nine yard pass to Roy Roundtree.
“Our team doesn’t give up,” Forcier said. “We’re going to keep fighting until the game is over. It showed. We can’t win all of them, but our guys kept fighting.”
Sparty’s QB, Kirk cousins, finished 15 of 21 for 152 yards and two INTs, along with 75 yards rushing. He injured his ankle late in the game, causing Keith Nichol to guide the Spartans offense for most of the fourth quarter and all of overtime.
